Mirch trailer : Something really hot for you

Here is something really hot for you. Mirch has hit the headlines hard and has become a much-hyped film overnight – thanks to its hot and sexy trailer

Yes, the trailer of Mirch is full of lovemaking scenes. The actors are seen kissing, sharing the same bed and even massaging. There is a scene similar to the one in Titanic, but in Mirch, the hero does body paint literally. As if that's not enough, the heroine goes topless in one of the scenes.

Mirch is a celebration of womanhood and deals with gender equality in relationship. It is a sex comedy with lots of wit and intelligence. Directed by Vinay Shukla, it features Konkona Sen Sharma, Raima Sen, Shahana Goswami, Ila Arun, Shreyas Talpade and others in the lead roles. It is set for release tomorrow, December 3.

Emraan Hashmi to act in 'XXX' movie

Emraan Hashmi
Unfazed with the dismal box office results of their recent release Crook, the Bhatts are back with another film. They have brought on board director Kunal Deshmukh, of Tum Mile fame, for his third venture with them.

Tentatively called XXX, it has three stories on sex and crime. Sounds familiar? But the Bhatts refute any similarity to Love, Sex Aur Dhokha . "It is a bold concept and explores the city culture," says Kunal. It isn't clear if Emraan Hashmi will act in the film, but it would be a shame if he missed out on a film right up his alley.

Katy Perry and British - Russell Brand Indian Wedding This Saturday In Jaipur

American pop star Katy Perry and British comedian Russell Brand have arrived in India. The couple, and their guests, are in Rajasthan for their Indian-themed wedding, which will span six days, before culminating in a final ceremony on Saturday. Perry and Brand were spotted at the London airport on Tuesday, before boarding a flight to India. Perry sported a gold nose ring, traditionally worn by Indian brides. The two are currently staying at the wedding venue, the Aman-I-Khas resort, near Ranthambor National Park. On Wednesday morning, Perry pleaded privacy on her Twitter account. “Greatest gift u can give us is respect and love during this private time (sic),” she wrote.

However, it has done little to curb media enthusiasm. Everything from her wedding dress to the rituals, are being scrutinised internationally. Her wedding dress is being designed by Lebanese fashion designer Reem Reem Acra, who has dressed Catherine Zeta Jones and Angelina Jolie in the past. Indian designers Falguni and Shane Peacock are also working on her trousseau. “We are in touch with Katy’s stylist and manager; we’re still finalising the details,” said Falguni. Indian jewellery designer Hanut Singh has made the engagement rings for the couple. “I helped design the rings,” he says.

Katy-Russell“Brand will produce a box of red wedding bangles, which he will wash in milk and then place on Perry’s wrists. Afterwards, there will be a band and fireworks,” reported British tabloid Daily Mail. The paper also quoted rap singer P Diddy saying that he will sing at the reception. Besides Rihanna and P Diddy, the guest list includes TV show host Jonathan Ross, Little Britain star David Williams and supermodel Lara Stone.

Katy’s wild bachelorette party
International pop star Rihanna took her role as Katy Perry’s bridesmaid rather seriously. The singer recently hosted a wild bachelorette party for Perry in Las Vegas, along with a few close friends. Celebrity blog, Just Jared, reported that Perry cut an erotic-themed cake that read, ‘C-t Gratulations’. The two stars then attended a Cirque Du Soleil performance before heading to a nightclub and then to a strip bar, where Perry reportedly got a lap dance.

Married, already?
Amid the hype about their upcoming wedding, some reports suggest that Perry and Brand may have already tied the knot. The San Francisco Chronicle reported that Brand was spotted in London wearing a wedding band on his left ring finger. Rumours are further fanned by the fact that Perry, in an interview in June, had said that she was already married. Their spokespersons have kept mum on the matter.

Wasim Akram - Sushmita Sen Affair

Pakistan's former cricket captain Wasim Akram thinks Bollywood actress Sushmita Sen is "pretty" and he would "like to be paired with her" if he ever chose to star in a movie.

In an interview with Pakistani TV channel Samaa, Wasim answered a wide range of questions about his personal life, cricket career and life after cricket in a candid manner.

When asked about Sushmita Sen, he said "she is pretty" and gave a smile, hinting at the much talked-about relationship between him and the Bollywood heartthrob.

The Indian and Pakistani media had been abuzz about Wasim dating Sushmita when both were hosting a dance show on an Indian channel together. Wasim had denied the rumours.

"A second marriage is out of question at the moment," said Wasim, whose wife Huma died of multiple organ failure at a Chennai hospital last year.

He said that he was "a romantic person at heart and would like to take Angelina Jolie for a date if given a chance". "I turned to show-business after leaving cricket because I wanted to try something different," he argued, adding that he is enjoying his new stint "as much as the first one".

"If I get another life, I would like to become Wasim Akram again," he said.

Regarding the Indian Premier League (IPL), the former fast bowler said, "It is quite a bit of fun and sheer entertainment". He said the T20 cricket, is "entertaining but unfortunately (it has) no quality".

Wasim said that he had always made himself available for coaching youngsters but the approach of Pakistan Cricket Borad (PCB) has "never been proper" in this regard. "I would probably prefer to work as manager or chief selector instead of chairman PCB if given an opportunity," he said in response to another query.

"I was offered the coaching job before Waqar Younis but had prior contracts for the next year or so," he revealed.

On his rivalry with Waqar during the hey day of their career, he said "we both were young and wanted to outperform each other. In the end, it was good for the team," he recalled.

The king of swing bowling said that "inclusion in ICC Hall of Fame was the biggest honour for him".

He did not rule out a stint in politics like his mentor Imran Khan but said "it may come after five-ten years when I have weighed myself".

On the current spot-fixing crisis, he said that "PCB and ICC are confused and don't know how to react".

"The authorities should have made it mandatory for the players much earlier to get their agents cleared from ICC," he said, adding, the "real truth regarding the three Pakistan players and the validity of the allegations is yet to surface".

"All this is getting too much to handle and I hope that the air clears soon," he added.

Three Pakistan players - Salman Butt, Muhammad Asif and Muhammad Amir - are currently suspended for their alleged involvement in spot fixing and bowling no-balls after taking bribes from an alleged bookie Mazhar Majeed during the team's recent England tour.

Amitabh Bachchan demands apology from the media

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan is in no mood to forgive and forget daily tabloid Mumbai Mirror for allegedly invading the privacy of his daughter-in-law actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and for claiming that she can't risk pregnancy due to stomach tuberculosis. He has demanded an apology from the newspaper.

"The unprofessional and slanderous nature of this article in such an esteemed and respected newspaper as the Mumbai Mirror is deeply disturbing. It brings the author of this article into disrepute. It brings the editor that published this article into disrepute. It brings this particular newspaper into disrepute. It brings the profession of journalism into disrepute," Amitabh posted on his blog www.bigb.bigadda.com.

"This article is in violation of the journalistic norms of conduct as published by the Press Council of India. Beyond your own disgrace, you have caused grievous distress and harm to the Bachchan family," he added.

The article in question, "Pregnant Pause - Aishwarya Rai Bachchan", was printed in the Thursday edition of the tabloid and alleged that Aishwarya is suffering from contracted tuberculosis of the stomach and as a consequence of this disease and its treatment, she is unable to conceive. The article also said that Amitabh has been pressing the duo for a grandson and was "therefore gender prejudiced".

The 67-year-old has written to Meenal Baghel, the editor of Mumbai Mirror.

He posted: "Due to the illicit nature of this slander, I request a retraction and full apology. The full apology comprises the names of the individual journalist and chief editor, the journalist's and editor's unqualified retraction and refutation of the contents of the article, the apology should be addressed to both Aishwarya Rai Bachchan first and specifically, and also to the Bachchan family in general.

"The apology is to be printed on the first page of the entertainment section of the Mumbai Mirror on the same page, in the same size print, and including the signatures of the aforementioned journalist and editor and an immediate donation of a sum of (amount to be decided by members of my extended family of the blog) to a national charitable foundation of your choosing that supports those who suffer from tuberculosis and an article in your newspaper highlighting its work."

Aishwarya had written to the tabloid Thursday asking for a denial and apology of equal prominence. The retraction was printed in the next edition.

Rakhi to wear Rs 3 mn necklace on 'swayamvar' day

Rakhi Sawant surely couldn't have asked for more. A Rs 30 lakh (Rs 3 million) necklace designed by Farah Ali Khan, a lehenga-choli wedding dress by celebrity designer Neeta Lulla, a 'swayamvar' on national television and a grand wedding to be watched by millions across the country.

The 'item girl', who has had a rags-to-riches career, will marry on NDTV Imagine's reality show Rakhi Ka Swayamvar soon. She will choose her "perfect man" from among nine grooms who have come from cities like New Delhi, Mumbai, Rishikesh, Jaipur and Kanpur and even from places as far off as Toronto.

National award winning designer Neeta Lulla, who is one of Aishwarya Rai's favourite designers, and ace jewellery designer Farah Khan Ali have been roped in to help Rakhi look her best on her D-day. And the two are doing every bit they can to fulfil the bride-to-be's wish to look like a "princess" that special day.

"Rakhi told us she wants to look like a princess that day - something like she has never looked before. I have given her a very colourful ensemble - it's a very conservative outfit," Lulla told IANS over phone from Mumbai.

"For her wedding day, Rakhi would be wearing a lehenga-choli in five different colours with ornate kundan work to give her an ethnic Rajasthani look," said Lulla, who has designed Aishwarya's clothes in movies like "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam", "Devdas" and more recently "Jodhaa Akbar".

To complement her outfit, Rakhi will be donning traditional Indian jadau jewellery designed by Farah Ali Khan, the daughter of yesteryears actor Sanjay Khan and well-known interior designer Zarine Khan.

"The choker that Rakhi will be wearing for her wedding day is very heavy. It looks very traditional and covers almost her entire neck," she said.

According to Khan, the choker costs approximately Rs 3 million. However, Lulla has refused to divulge the price tag of her outfit.

The two designers are not only putting their creative instincts together for Rakhi's wedding day but also for the sangeet and mehendi (pre-wedding) ceremonies.

For the sangeet, Rakhi decided to opt for an Indo-Western look in blue. Lulla says it is a very contemporary outfit. To match the dress, Khan has given her an elaborate diamond neck piece, which also costs around Rs.3 million.

If both the designers are to be believed, Rakhi was extremely "accomodating" to their suggestions but gave her inputs as well.

"Rakhi told me that her earrings shouldn't be very heavy so that she can dance freely. She also said that I should design ornaments which don't break," said Khan.

If this wasn't enough, model-turned-fashion co-ordinator Marc Robinson has also been roped in to groom Rakhi's prospective grooms, who are vying to marry the former item girl through the reality show.

Rakhi's wedding will take place as soon as she zeroes in on an eligible bachelor for herself on NDTV Imagine's show Rakhi Ka Swayamvar - a move that has left a lot of people in tinsel town shocked.

Shruti Hassan sizzles in Bikini in Luck

Kamal Haasan’s daughter Shruti Haasan is set to make her debut in Bollywood in ‘Luck’ directed by Soham Shah.

Shruti carries off her debut in style and will be seen in some sizzling bikini shots.
The actor said she had no qualms about donning a bikini as “the script demanded it.” (Haven’t we heard these lines from Kareena Kapoor recently?) Shruti, who shot in a two-piece in the ice cold temperature of Cape Town, said, “It was like any other scene. I felt no difference.” Shruti said she knew she’d have to do such scenes as soon as she heard the script.

The bold character that she plays in the movie demanded a few bold scenes. The scene involved Imran Khan, Ravi Kishen and Mithun Chakraborty. Shruti’s bikini has been designed by Soham’s wife Binal Shah.

Seems like Shruti wants to head straight up the ladder in Bollywood with her debut movie. Wonder what papa Kamal Haasan’s take on his daughter’s bikini act is.

Shiney Ahuja's bail plea rejected

MUMBAI (Reuters) - A city court on Wednesday rejected the bail application of Bollywood actor Shiney Ahuja who is in prison on charges of rape, prosecutors said.

The actor, who has been sent to judicial custody till July 16, had applied for bail on the grounds that he was falsely implicated by his maid.

"The court has refused to grant him bail," Chief Public Prosecutor Ramnath Kini told Reuters.

"The prosecution argued that Ahuja, being a well known personality and a moneyed person, could tamper with witnesses."

Ahuja, 36, has been in jail since June 15, a day after he was accused of raping his maid at his Mumbai residence.

The actor, who made his debut with the critically-acclaimed film "Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi" in 2003, faces a prison sentence of at least seven years if found guilty of rape, criminal intimidation and wrongful confinement charges.

IPL frenzy may hurt Bollywood box office

IPL and Bollywood
MUMBAI: IPL’s overwhelming response in terms of ratings may hurt Yashraj Films, considering it’s next big release Tashan, releasing 25 April will be pitted against this newly-popular form of cricket.

The estimated Rs 30-crore movie, trade analysts and leading multiplex operators feel, may struggle to garner a big audience due to matches scheduled in the afternoon and prime time. This will have an impact on the 3 pm, 6 pm and 9 pm shows, which are the key drivers at the box office.

Also with Friday, Saturday and Sunday becoming critical in terms of revenue exploitation, distributors are tense considering the cricket frenzy.

Last weekend, while no major films were released, Ajay Devgun’s directoral debut U Me aur Hum fell to the 15-20% occupancy level, resulting in the trade branding it a flop. It had witnessed a poor opening at 30-35%.

The Rs 25-crore film may bring in only Rs 9 crore through ticket sales. If one accounts for all the other exploitation rights, the film is expected to make a loss of Rs 8-9 crore.

On the other hand, Krazzy 4 which opened with a 70% occupancy level, fell drastically to 20-25% in terms of collections towards the end of its first week. The grand IPL launch also did not help, despite no new release this week.

The Rs 10 crore film is expected to make close to Rs 7-8 crore at the box office and a further Rs 5 crore via other rights such as satellite, music and the home market, resulting in a small profit of Rs 3-4 crore.

The negative rub off on revenues of movies at the box office may extend to the Big B-starrer Bhootnath releasing on 9 May, which is the next big ticket movie in the offing.

In the overseas market, U Me Aur Hum has beaten Krazzy 4, unlike the domestic box office. Krazzy 4 grossed close to Rs 3 crore in 3 days in the overseas markets as opposed to U Me Aur Hum clocking Rs 6 crore in the same period. The majority of these revenues came in from North America and UK.

According to Tam Media Research the inaugural match in Bangalore between Shah Rukh Khan’s Kolkata Knight Riders and Vijay Mallya’s Bangalore Royal Challengers on Friday fetched a rating of 8.21, with 12.5-million people tuning in to watch the match.

The following two matches played between Chennai Super Kings Vs Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals Vs Delhi Daredevils, clocked 4.97 TRP and 5.58 TRP, respectively.

As the matches move into the second stage shortly, Bollywood is indeed going to face stiff competition from the cricket-cum-entertainment bonanza that IPL seems to offer.

The year has been dry for Bollywood, with only the Saif Ali Khan-Bipasha starrer Race putting up a good show. Bollywood has yet to see a mega blockbuster film at the box office in 2008.

Emraan Hashmi smooched by fan - Watch Video

And all this happened much to the disgust of music director Pritam Chakraborty. The appalled musician has reportedly said that if all this was a rehearsed event then the show was nothing but digging its own grave.

All this commotion happened during the recording of the ‘Voice of India’ show held on February 25, Monday. As the shooting was going on an over enthused fan ran to the center stage and kissed Emraan Hashmi right on his lips much to the shock and disgust of others present. The judge and composer Pritam expressed his disgust by staging a walkout of the show.

Thinking back on the event Pritam is believed to have said that the entire episode happened so fast and suddenly in a show that was showcasing children’s talent. The music director is of view that such explosive behavior should be curtailed in public.

Pritam is believed to have made his stand very clear by saying that ‘Voice of India’ is a very potential show and that it has produced very deserving winners, and he did not want this show to just bank on TRPs alone like a lot of other ordinary music shows.

Emraan, for you we suggest you better wear a helmet while you go to such shows in future.

Kerala's biggest bank robbery inspired by Dhoom

It was Dhoom sans the bikes and babes. Sanjay Gadhvi’s thriller shot a real-life take in Malappuram in Kerala when a group of criminals burrowed their way into a bank on New Year’s Eve. Two months later, however, police have caught four of the accused and recovered most of the Rs8-crore loot in an equally dramatic operation.

If Jaison, the mastermind, was inspired by Kabir (the dashing thief played by John Abraham), there were 27 Jais (the supercop played by Abhishek Bachchan) after him. Malappuram superintendent of police P Vijayan led his men on the culprits’ trail, armed with an innovative strategy and hi-tech investigation methods.

Additional director general of police KS Jangpangi, briefing reporters about the arrests in Malappuram on Thursday, said this is a milestone in the police records. “It is a classic case of teamwork. We also couldn’t have done it without good leadership,” he said. He added the theft was the biggest in the history of the state.

On the morning of January 1, the staff of the South Malabar Grameen Bank in Chelembra was shocked to see the floor cracked open from below and the locker poorer by Rs7.5 crore worth of gold and Rs25 lakh cash. The daredevilry was attributed to a mysterious man who had rented the floor below the bank in the guise of renovating it as a restaurant. “There were no weapons used to make the manhole and the gang left very scant evidence,” Jangpangi said. Police relied on a sketch of a man called Babu in the initial phase of the investigation. Jaison aka Joseph has an uncanny resemblance to the sketch made by the police team from descriptions given by locals.

Deepika-Yuvi split! now dating Ranbir Kapoor

Deepika Padukone’s long list of admirers will now have one name less. She is no longer with cricketer Yuvraj Singh. The OSO actress split with Yuvi a few weeks back and is now dating Ranbir Kapoor.

Busy bee

The reason for the split is Yuvraj’s possessive attitude. A close friend spills the beans. “Deepika was very serious about Yuvraj. In fact, the two were madly in love.

However, after the success of OSO, Deepika got busy and could not give Yuvi as much time. She got busy meeting producers and signing films. This pissed Yuvi who felt he wasn’t getting enough attention from her.”

Showdown

They were also having other problems. Yuvi was giving her instructions on what to wear and with whom to party. “He was upset with the rumours of her growing proximity to Ranbir.

Before she left for her Australian schedule with Ranbir for the Yash Raj film, they had a huge showdown. She told him to back off and let her breathe, while he warned her not to get too close to Ranbir.”

Sources reveal that Deepika would avoid Yuvi’s calls while in Australia and that’s when he realised their relationship was over. “After getting back, she met him and called it off. Since then, Deepika has been thick with Ranbir and they are happy together.”

Ranbir and Deepika were seen holding hands at Farah and Aqueel’s party after the Filmfare Award night. “They want to keep it private.

They’ve dated in the past, but are extremely serious about each other now. In fact, they were also heard exchanging sweet nothings backstage on the awards night.”

When Los Angeles Times Leaked the Oscar Results

When the first Academy Awards were handed out on May 16, 1929, movies had just begun to talk. That first ceremony took place during an Academy banquet in the Blossom Room of the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. The attendance was 270 and guest tickets cost $5. It was a long banquet, filled with speeches, but presentation of the statuettes was handled expeditiously by Academy President Douglas Fairbanks.

The suspense that now touches most of the world at Oscar time was not always a characteristic of the Awards presentation. That first year, the award recipients were announced to the public three months ahead of the ceremony. For the next decade, the results were given in advance to newspapers for publication at 11 p.m. on the night of the Awards. But in 1940, much to the Academy’s dismay, the Los Angeles Times broke the embargo and announced the winning achievements in its evening edition, which was readily available to guests arriving for the affair. As a result, the Academy adopted the sealed-envelope system the next year, and the system remains in use today.

Since the earliest years, interest in the Academy Awards has run high, if not at the modern fever pitch. The first presentation was the only one to escape a media audience; by the second year, enthusiasm for the Awards was such that a Los Angeles radio station actually did a live one-hour broadcast of the event. The ceremony has had broadcast coverage ever since.

For 15 years the Academy Awards presentations were banquet affairs; after the first at the Hollywood Roosevelt, they were held at the Ambassador and Biltmore hotels. The custom of presenting the statuettes at a banquet was discontinued after the 1942 Awards. Increased attendance and the war had made banquets impractical, and the presentation ceremonies have since been held in theaters.

The 16th Awards ceremony was held at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre. It was covered by network radio for the first time and broadcast overseas to American GIs. The Awards stayed at Grauman’s for three years, then moved to the Shrine Civic Auditorium. Two years later, in March 1949, the 21st Awards ceremony took place in the Academy’s own Melrose Avenue theater. For the next 11 years, the annual Awards were held at the RKO Pantages Theatre in Hollywood. It was there, on March 19, 1953, that the Academy Awards Presentation was first televised. The NBC-TV and radio network carried the 25th Academy Awards ceremonies live from Hollywood with Bob Hope as master of ceremonies, and from the NBC International Theatre in New York with Fredric March making the presentations.

In 1961 the Awards moved to the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium and changed broadcasters, beginning a 10-year run with the ABC-TV network. In 1966 the Oscars were first broadcast in color. From 1971 through 1975, the NBC-TV network carried the Awards. ABC has telecast the show since 1976 and is under contract through 2014.

On April 14, 1969, the 41st Academy Awards ceremonies moved to the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion of the Los Angeles County Music Center. It was the first major event for this now world-renowned cultural center.

The Awards remained at the Music Center until 1987, then the ceremonies returned to the Shrine Auditorium for the 60th and 61st Awards. For a dozen years, the event alternated venues – the 62nd, 64th, 65th, 66th, 68th and 71st Awards were held at the Music Center, while the 63rd, 67th, 69th, 70th, 72nd and 73rd were at the Shrine.

Since 2002, the Academy Awards have been held at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood and Highland Center in Hollywood.

In the first year, 15 statuettes were awarded (all of them to men except for the Best Actress award, which went to Janet Gaynor), but in the second year the number of awards was reduced to seven – two for acting and one each for Outstanding Picture, Directing, Writing, Cinematography and Art Direction. Since then, the number of award categories has grown slowly but steadily.

The need for special awards beyond standard categories was recognized from the start. Two were awarded for the 1927/28 year: one went to Warner Bros. for producing the groundbreaking talking picture “The Jazz Singer,” and the other went to Charles Chaplin for producing, directing, writing and starring in “The Circus.”

In 1934 three new regular categories were added: Film Editing, Music Score and Song. That year also saw a vocal campaign to include the un-nominated Bette Davis for her performance in “Of Human Bondage” among the Best Actress nominees, prompting the Academy to allow write-ins on the final ballot. Two years later this practice was specifically disallowed in Academy rules.

The accounting firm of Price Waterhouse signed with the Academy in 1934 and has been employed ever since to tabulate and ensure the secrecy of the results. The ballots for the 80th Awards will be tabulated by PricewaterhouseCoopers, the name adopted by the firm in 1998.

In 1936 the first Academy Awards were presented in the Supporting Actor and Supporting Actress categories. The honors went to Walter Brennan for “Come and Get It” and Gale Sondergaard for “Anthony Adverse.”

The first presentation of the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award was made in 1937, with the honor going to Darryl F. Zanuck.

The Academy Award for Special Effects was added in 1939 and was first won by Fred Sersen and E. H. Hansen of 20th Century-Fox for “The Rains Came.” In 1963 the Special Effects award was split into two: Sound Effects and Special Visual Effects, in recognition of the fact that the best sound effects and best visual effects did not necessarily come from the same film.

In 1941 the documentary film category appeared on the ballot for the first time. In 1947, even before television increased the rest of the world’s interest in the Awards ceremonies, the Academy brought films from non-English-speaking countries into Oscar’s sphere. That year the first award to honor a foreign language motion picture was given to the Italian film “Shoe-Shine.” Seven more special awards were presented before Foreign Language Film became an annual category in 1956. In 1948 the Academy gave Costume Design a place on the ballot. The Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award was established in 1956 and presented that year to Y. Frank Freeman. A regular award for Makeup and the Gordon E. Sawyer Award for technological contributions were established in 1981. In 2001 the Academy added a new category, Best Animated Feature Film.

There have been only three circumstances that prevented the Academy Awards presentation from going off as scheduled. The first was in 1938, when destructive floods all but washed out Los Angeles and delayed the ceremony one week. In 1968 the Awards ceremony was postponed from April 8 to April 10 out of respect for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who had been assassinated a few days earlier, and whose funeral was held on April 9. In 1981 the Awards were postponed for 24 hours because of the assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan.

In 2003, when U.S. forces invaded Iraq the Thursday before the telecast, the show went on, but the red carpet was limited to the area immediately in front of the theater entrance, the red carpet bleachers were eliminated and the bulk of the world’s press was not able to photograph or interview guests as they arrived. In 2004 the red carpet was back in all its glitz and glamour. Attendance at the Academy Awards ceremony is by invitation only. No tickets are put on public sale.

Jodhaa Akbar money maker than Om Shanti Om

Getting a royal welcome on both sides of the Atlantic, Ashutosh Gowariker's Jodhaa Akbar, grabbed an estimated $1.3 million in North America and $750,000 in the United Kingdom over the weekend.

Factoring in the Gulf countries, the Caribbean and Australia, the three day haul could reach an awesome $3 million.

The film may not have crossover appeal to the mainstream audiences but anyone who reads the opening of The New York Times review may be tempted to see it. 'They may not make'em like they used to in Hollywood,' critic Rachel Saltz wrote, 'but sometimes in India they still do. Jodhaa Akbar... is filmmaking on the grand scale of Cecil B De Mille (The Ten Commandments), with romance, stirring battles, and enough elephants and gold to sink the Titanic [Images].'

The US box-office was especially impressive given the awful weather conditions in the Midwest.

"If the goodwill and enthusiasm for the film continues, and we at UTV feel it will, Jodhaa Akbar could make even more money than Om Shanti Om," said Lokesh Dhar for distributor UTV. "We are not looking at the success of this film in terms of another hit for UTV (which has distributed hits like Don). It could become the all-time highest grossing Bollywood film in North America."

Farah Khan's [Images] OSO starring Shah Rukh Khan [Images], who also produced it, grossed about $3.8 million in North America and holds the record.
