After a stunning performance in Taare Zameen Par -- C Safary -- has been nominated in the Best Actor category for the upcoming Filmfare Awards. Darsheel has already received the Star Screen Award for Best Child Actor, but said that he wanted the Best Actor Award which Shahrukh Khan bagged ultimately.
Darsheel's performance as a dyslexic child in Taare Zameen Par has been lauded by several luminaries including LK Advani. Overjoyed by her son's nomination, Darsheel's mother said,"I am happy that he has been nominated in Best Actor category and not in Best Child Actor. His nomination itself is good enough for us."
Darsheel Safary had no limits on his happiness and ecstatically said,"I am a superstar." He can certainly say that, after all the nine-year old is now in the league of other child prodigies like Tatum O'Neal -- who won an oscar at just ten and The Sixth Sense' Haley Joel Osment -- who was nominated for an Oscar at just eleven. Darsheel has made history in Bollywood becoming the first child actor to be nominated in the best actor category of the 53rd Filmfare Awards to be held on February 23, 2008.
The child actor is pitted against superstars like Abhishek Bachchan for Guru, Akshay Kumar for Namastey London, Shahid kapoor for Jab We met and Shahrukh Khan for Om Shanti Om, Chak De. Amidst this whopping competition, one person in particular Darsheel will be looking to beat is none other than the Badshah of Bollywood -- Shahrukh Khan.
Darsheel allegedly refused to attend the Star Screen Awards held in January 2008 because he did not get a Best Actor Nomination even though he was rewarded with the Best Child Actor award. SRK finally walked away with the Best Actor Award at the same awards ceremony. Darsheel will be looking for vindication this time around. One will have to wait and watch if this child prodigy manages to steal King Khan's thunder and though that would certainly make history, SRK is not called the Badshah of Bollywood for nothing.
