Farhan Akhtar on the cover of GQ Jan 2009 issue

farhangq1_400Now that New Year is here, all the magazines, glossies and newspapers will surely have a gala time flashing the celebs on their covers. Kick starting this year's magazine covers-story category is none other than the super cool magazine GQ. After having created a sensational launch in India with the super cool Saif Ali Khan, followed by Daniel Craig no less, GQ welcomes the New Year with the one and only Farhan Akhtar, the name to watch out for this year.

In this issue, the actor-director-extreme sportsman-rockstar etc, Farhan Akhtar speaks about life after Rock On, male bonding, star 'kid-dom' and breaking 'Bollywood formula' boundaries. Farhan, in this issue, speaks all of everything.

A few gems from him includes, "I must have been the only kid in the world who knew about and loved movies so much that I would wake up early for school, just so that I could watch a little bit every day.

I had this almost romantic relationship with film. I was always watching something and collecting movies - tapes, then LDs when they came and now DVDs. There has never been anything else that I wanted to do."

Explaining the reason to choose Farhan as the 'cover-boy', Che Kurrien, Editor GQ India, says, "For the cover of GQ India's first issue of 2009, we chose Farhan Akhtar - the renaissance man of Indian cinema. Akhtar acts, writes, directs and sings, inspiring men across the country to go and chase their dreams, whatever their line of work." No one in the world has got any 'proof' to negate that! Words to go, Farhan...we mean... way to go!

For the curious and the impatient ones, the date to remember is 30th December as the January 2009 issue hits the stands then!

Victory : A Film on MS Dhoni's life

M S Dhoni

After his debut in Love Story 2050, Harman Baweja is all set to make a comeback with his latest Victory. The film, which is being directed by Ajitpal Mangat, is based on cricket and has some real big names from the cricketing world like Brett Lee, Simon Katich, Harbhajan Singh, Sohail Tanvir, Graeme Smith, Chaminda Vaas and Muralitharan making an appearance.

Victory is about a small town boy, who like millions of others, dreams of making it big in the world of cricket and actually does go all the way. The buzz doing the rounds is that the film's story is inspired by the real life success story of India Captain M.S.Dhoni. It is well known fact that Dhoni, who is a household name today, was just another ordinary lad from Jharkhand with dreams in his eyes few years ago.
We decided to probe a little more into this and when we got in touch with a reliable source from Mr. Mangat's office, he said, "I cannot comment on this right now. You will have to wait for the right time till we are ready to disclose such information." If sources are to be believed the film also has references to the real life success stories of players like Yuvraj Singh and Virender Sehwag. We tried getting in touch with Harman too but he was unavailable for comment. One will have to wait and watch if Victory is indeed based on the life M.S. Dhoni.

Shahrukh Khan and Abhishek together in Kal Kissney Dekha

Shahrukh and Abhishek
Director Vivek 'Banku' Sharma is very busy these days. It is said that busy people are happy people. But he isn't just happy. He is over overjoyed and overworked and is loving every bit of it to the T. The director is shuffling up and down to the Film City where he has put up a giant guitar shaped set with the two talked about debutants, Jacky Bhagnani, son of Vashu Bhagnani, and Vaishali Desai, grand daughter of the late filmmaker Manmohan Desai, who are shaking their leg to the title track of the film which has a special appearance made by none other than...wait a minute! We cannot disclose that to you because Vivek doesn't want us to. Let's respect that.
Bollywood's finest stars who are going to make an appearance in Kal Kissney Dekha. That makes it three, isn't it? One of them is a tight lipped secret. Now if we jog our memory to Vivek's debut film Bhoothnath, we know that he roped in the 'King Khan' Shah Rukh for a special appearance. Right? So no prizes for guessing that Shahrukh is again going to make a cameo appearance in Vivek's Kal Kissney Dekha. The director says, "SRK is making a special appearance in the film and is coming at a very important time in the film's climax. He is a good friend and like a brother to me and for him to agree to be a part of Kal Kissney Dekha is like a blessing".

Two over. Now guess who the third one is. Amitabh Bachchan had a full length role in Bhoothnath and if you think that he has agreed to do a cameo, you've got it wrong. This time the Big B has made way for Small B. Yes, Abhishek Bachchan is the third actor doing a brief appearance in the film. Says Vivek, "Abhishek Bachchan is a part of one of the romantic songs which is going to be shot in New Zealand in the first week of January". What's more? Vivek is also keeping a special Valentine's treat for the fans, come February 14, which will be the launch day of Kal Kissney Dekha's music. He said, "We are working on a theme right now. It reads - Say I Love You because Kal Kissney Dekha". Now that's nothing short of being creative Mr. Sharma! Looks like Vivek is already in love...we mean, in love with his film to such an extent that he is roping in all his celeb friends in what's going to be one of 2009's biggest launch film for the two new debutants.

He was brought in the hospital by his actress girlfriend Kareena Kapoor at around 5:30 pm.

Our sources inform, “There was a big Christmas eve bash at Saif’s place last evening. But today since morning Saif began feeling unwell and complaining of a bad tummy ache. He also kept on vomiting all through the day. It was perhaps because of something that he ate last night.

Finally his family members decided it would be a better idea to take him to the hospital for a better diagnosis and medication.”

Kareena’s sister, actress Karisma Kapoor who too had accompanied the couple to the hospital was present outside Lilavati. She stated, “Saif is now stable and there was nothing to worry about. He may be discharged any minute. Kareena is there inside with him.”

One can recollect that this is not the first time that Saif has been admitted to a hospital.

In February 2007, the Bollywood actor underwent an angiography after he was admitted into Lilavati following complains of severe chest pain. The actor had undergone an emergency appendectomy surgery after complaining of abdomen pain during a shoot in Kuala Lumpur in early 2006. (SAMPURN)

‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’ script to the Oscars library

It's time for YRF to start their celebrations as ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’ has had a successful run at the BO since its release last week. And if that was not enough the news is that YRF has got a call from the Oscar library requesting them for the script of ‘Rab Ne...’ for its permanent collection.

It's time for YRF to start their celebrations as ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’ has had a successful run at the BO since its release last week. And if that was not enough the news is that YRF

News has it that it's basically the sensitivity of the screenplay and the unusual love story that attracted the attention of the Oscar library. For the uninitiated, the scripts in the collection are kept at the famous Margaret Herrick Library and are made accessible strictly for research purposes only. It's actually the students, filmmakers, writers and actors who can avail of the script. Not just that, the screenplays may only be viewed in the library since they do not get circulated and no screenplay is allowed to be photocopied.

Critics may not have given ‘Rab Ne...’ the much expected five star ratings, but being chosen for the Oscar library is an achievement in itself! SRK will surely agree to this! Bollywood hungama

Aamir Khan's Fitness Secrets for Ghajini -Watch Video

Aamir Khan and Satyajit Chourasia
How Aamir trained for Ghajini

Ten years ago when Aamir Khan was on the lookout for a muscular man for a role in Ghulam, he spotted a youngster, who had come to Film City, with his brother. Aamir learnt that he was new to Mumbai, and was in the city of dreams to pursue a career in acting. The youngster auditioned, and Aamir saw that he could not act.

"I advised that boy to get into body building, as acting was not meant for him. He was better suited for that job," recalled Aamir.

Four years later, Aamir bumped into the youngster again. This time, he wasn't a struggling actor. Instead, he was responsible for giving Saif Ali Khan his new and improved fit look.

Today, that same youngster -- who goes by the name Sanjay Chourasia -- is responsible for giving Aamir his fab abs in Ghajini.

'Aamir gave me direction in life'

Chourasia, to this day, remains grateful to Aamir for guiding him well in life.

"He is like God to me," Chourasia says. "He gave me direction in life when I needed it the most."

"I could not believe that the same boy, whom I had suggested that he drop his acting aspirations, has become a well known trainer," said Aamir.

'He would scream in pain but would never give up'

But did the role require such rigorous training? "My director wanted me in that particular look so I thought I should give it a shot," Aamir said. "I didn't want to let him down."

But he admitted that there were times when he felt like giving up.

"There were days when I felt like quitting because some exercises were very painful," Aamir said. "But if you have determination, you can do it. I had a lot of fat content in my body. The end result could have been better but I was satisfied with what I achieved."

"I have worked with many people but I feel Aamir has extraordinary will power," Chourasia said. "He would scream in pain but would never give up."

'I have to lose weight all over again for Raju's film'

Did he lose sleep in his quest to get into shape?

"In fact, I slept well," Aamir said. "I slept eight hours everyday. You need to sleep well when you want to get in this kind of shape."

Did he take advice from the other muscle men in the industry? "Salman Khan and Hrithik Roshan gave me advice," he added. "Salman was one of the first actors of the industry to get into body building. His tips were helpful."

Did he take the help of steroids? "I don't believe in them," AAmir replied. "There are no short cuts for body building. Moreover, these steroids have side affects. Body building takes five years on an average but I gave my best shot, and got it in one year. I hope my fans like this new look in Ghajini."

"Aamir and I have worked four hours a day on an average, for 13 months. Even if he was busy with his films or other assignments, he would never miss his workout regime," Chourasia said.

Unfortunately, Aamir cannot keep his fab abs for long. He will have to lose weight for his new film, Rajkumar Hirani's Three Idiots.

"I have to lose weight all over again for Raju's film. I have to look like a college boy. I hope to get my Ghajini shape back after that film," Aamir said.

"It's like building a Taj Mahal and then destroying it," Chourasia concluded.

Ghajini, starring Aamir Khan, Asin and Jiah Khan, is a remake of a Tamil movie by the same name, is directed by A R Murugadoss and releases on December 25.
