Aamir's Delhi Belly budget 30 crores

Dear Aamir, is bad the new good in selling films?

Actor Aamir Khan's production venture 'Delhi Belly' has gone way over budget...

One would think that Delhi Belly starring Imran Khan, Veer Das and Kunal wouldn't be a very expensive venture. However, Aamir Khan insists that movie will cost as much as a whopping Rs. 30 crores. When we caught up with the actor, he told us, "The budget has gone way overboard. But that happens with every movie we produce, be it Lagaan, Dhobi Ghaat, Peepli Live, or even Delhi Belly. We thought 'Delhi Belly' would be around 20 crores. Now, I see it easily costing us about 30!"

Aamir cites creative decisions as the reason for this. "I'm more of a creative person than a business person. So I tend to spend more once the creativity is justified, rather than curb creativity to stick to a limited spend."

When asked if the delay has caused an up in the spends, Aamir is quick to say, "Not at all. There was no re-shooting done. Yes, there has been a delay, but that has just affected the release date of the movie, and not the cost."

The delay in releasing Delhi Belly Aamir attributes to his busy schedule.

Dhobi Ghat (Trailer)

Written and directed by Aamir Khan's wife, Kiran Rao, the Aamir Khan produced movie Dhobi Ghat follows four different characters who all live and work in the washer area known as Dhobi Ghat near Mahalaxmi Station on the Western Railway in Mumbai. The washers, who are called dhobis, work with local hotels and hospitals and their job consists of washing clothes in the open air. This 'outdoor laundry' has even become a tourist attraction.

Dhobi Ghat stars Prateik Babbar, Aamir Khan, Monica Dogra and Kriti Malhotra. Aamir Khan plays a painter named Arun, Prateik Babbar portrays Munna, a washer, Kriti Malhotra plays a Muslim girl called Yasmin and Monica Dogra portrays a banker named Shai who is only in India on holiday.

The movie follows these four individuals and shows how their lives are intertwined. "Dhobi Ghat is my homage to Mumbai and its people - people on the trains, in the boats, stuck in traffic, perched on the construction sites, sitting by the sea, thinking of tomorrow," director Kiran Rao told reporters. "What started five years ago as a vague idea is now a 100-minute reality and I am most excited and very nervous," she added.

Shai and Arun meet during the opening of Arun's new art show. They end up sleeping together but in the morning they part ways thinking they will probably never meet again. Munna, a young dhobi whose job it is to wash Shai's clothes, dreams of becoming an actor. He convinces Shai to help him with his portfolio and in return, he promises the banker to show her the real city. They become friends but Munna soon falls in love with Shai.

Dhobi Ghat hits theaters on January 21, 2011. Check out the trailer here and let us know if you think it will be a hit or a miss.

Aamir Khan walks the ramp to promote 3 Idiots

Aamir KhanBollywood Actor Aamir Khan designed doodles, launched merchandise and walked the ramp along with fellow actors Sharman Joshi and R Madhavan here on Friday (December 4) to promote his forthcoming flick 3 Idiots.

The movie 3 Idiots is the celluloid adaptation of author Chetan Bhagat's best selling novel Five Point Someone.

The movie revolves around three friends, whose dismal grade point averages at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) influence their friendship, love life and career choices.

Aamir Khan was all excited to promote his movie and said it would definitely be an inspirational one.

"I agree with you Rang de Basanti was an extremely inspiring film. I think that's been the effort with 3 Idiots as well. I am hoping that the story that Raju (director Rajkumar Hirani) and Abhijat (Joshi) have come up with and the way Raju has directed the film, I am hoping that it will be an extremely inspirational film for not only the youth, but each and every person who sees the film," he said.

The three actors had earlier worked together in Rang De Basanti, which was acclaimed by everyone and won several awards.

The stars walked the ramp in a collection designed by Aamir himself, and the movie merchandise was launched in collaboration with a reputed fashion house.

Aamir Khan flair of connecting with the youth is the idea behind designing the apparel and accessories, as he was also pleased to put forward his doodles in front of his fans.

"Doodling is something that all of us keep doing all our lives. So some of these doodles are in my film, or on paper while I was working on the film during rehearsals, or when I am reading the script; some of them I did later on when this concept was out that we can come out with merchandising with my doodles. So, for example, this t-Shirt I did later on," he said.

Kareena Kapoor stars opposite Aamir in the movie.

Drunk Aamir lands director in problem

3 Idiots Aamir drunk For a scene in 3 Idiots , Aamir Khan, R Madhavan and Sharman Joshi were to act drunk at the college adda where they regularly meet to chill out. The perfectionist that Aamir is, he suggested that the trio should actually get drunk to make the scene look more authentic. The trio agreed and after getting drunk, they started enjoying themselves and were really in their element.

With the actors being in the right ‘spirit’, director Rajkumar Hirani was happy with the way in which the actors were giving their takes with a realistic feel to it. Hirani wanted to shoot various options and later choose the best. This particular scene was being shot late in the night.

Interestingly, after a few retakes, the unit realized that they have ran out of film reel in the middle of the night. Says a unit-hand, “When Raju Hirani got to know about it, he was worried because he didn’t want this shoot to extend for another day and didn’t want the cast to get drunk all over again.”

Since it was difficult to procure raw stock at such a late hour, the production team went all out hunting for film reel... “Fortunately, there was a regional film being shot nearby and the director of the film was more than happy to help Rajkumar Hirani with reels. Finally the team managed to get a reel and wrap up the shoot,” said the unit member.

Aamir Khan-Salman Khan bond over bike rides

In an industry rife with cut-throat competition where simmering emotions boil up in a series of verbal potshots now and then, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan have surprisingly been bonding like thick buddies.

Who can forget Salman’s personal ode to Ghajini when he painted Aamir’s portraits (in the Ghajini look) ahead of the film’s release last year. Though the SRK-Salman cold war may have driven a wedge through the industry and its camp-loyal folks, Aamir’s friendship with Salman has remained unaffected.

The two stars make it a point to meet and spend some time together whenever their busy schedules permit. But we now learn that they also go out for rides on Salman’s mobike when the streets of Mumbai are almost deserted in the dead of the night.

According to reports, Aamir first drives to Salman’s Bandra residence where he parks his car. Later, the duo ride out on Salman’s bike while a small pose of security guards follows them.

After the ride, the duo often sits down for a chat over a couple of drinks either at Salman’s place or at Aamir’s.

Kate Winslet as Aamir Khan's Heroine

Superstar Aamir Khan is all set to team up with Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet in an international film based on Saadat Hasan Manto's famous partition story 'Toba Tek Singh', Femalefirst reported.
The pair will star in the film, which is based on Manto's take on the madness of partition in 1947. The story depicts the irony of the situation through the lunatics in a mental asylum in 1947.

Aamir is said to have been impressed with the script and will play the character of a mentally retarded person in the asylum.

If the actor agrees to work in the film, it would be his second movie on the subject. He had earlier starred in Deepa Mehta's 'Earth-1947', which was an adaptation of Bapsi Sidhawa's novel 'Ice Candyman'.The film will be directed by India-born filmmaker Pan Nalin, who has earlier directed highly acclaimed film 'Samsara'.

Nalin hopes to rope in Winslet for the project but if she rejects it, he will approach Rachel Weisz to play the role of Dr Sophie in the film, the website said.

"Either Kate or Rachel will be doing my film. I will be meeting both of them after my Cannes trip to finalise the casting. Either of them will be able to do justice to this marvelous story," Nalin said. PTI

44th birthday for Aamir Khan

Be it as a child artist in Yaadon Ki Baraat or the sepoy champion in Mangal Pandey, be it the lover boy of Rangeela or the macho man of Ghajini, be it the twinkle-eyed, mischief-monger of Raja Hindustani or the zealous, fiery-spirited youngster of Rang De Basanti, Aamir Khan is without doubt an acting-god of Indian cinema. Two decades of filmdom, a remarkable filmograph, and tonnes of dare-devil attitude, Aamir is indeed a phenomenon in celluloid space.

The actor, who is celebrating his 44th birthday today (March 14th), hit screens with no greater qualification than his chocolate-boy looks. When Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak released, no one ever imagined that this lover boy would rise to the level of the next superstar of Bollywood. Though his early years were chequered with many hits and flops, he grew up steadily in box office ratings and emerged as a demi-god on the Indian screens. Hit films like Dil, Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin, Jo Jeeta Wahi Sikandar, Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke and Rangeela perched him high in the hearts of fans. However, it was the lover-boy of Raja Hindustani who made it to the award nights. Aamir won Filmfare for Best Actor for his performance in Raja Hindustani. After a short series of misses, the actor came back with a bang on the silver screen with his Lagaan. Lagaan was a turning point in Indian cinema and was nominated for the Oscars in the Best Foreign Language Film category in 2001.

Meanwhile, the actor divulged from acting and ventured into production space. This transition from acting to filmmaking proved extremely successful. Accolades and awards followed with Rang De Basanti, a benchmark film in Indian cinema. Taare Zameen Par, a distinct, close-to-the-heart film on child-care, captivated the hearts of parents, children and teachers alike. And what more, the actor topped it all with his scintillating performance in the recent Ghajini, the Hindi remake of a Tamil film of the same title. Right now, the actor has three films in his kitty. Delhi Belly and Three Idiots being the much-anticipated films of this year.

With all this work and much more to come, Aamir Khan has become a genre in himself. An avid risk-taker, he goes for the unexplored and non-commercial when others are just contented with navigating through conventional space. As he rightly says, he is not a “typecasted actor”.

Galatta.com wishes Aamir Khan all success and happiness on his birthday! May the actor scale more heights in the world of cinema.

Today being Aamir Khan's birthday, Galatta.com will bring you exclusive features on the actor throughout the day. Keep tuned to Galatta.com for more on powerhouse-performer Aamir.

Aamir Khan at IIM-Ahmedabad

AHMEDABAD: The thinking actor of Bollywood
, Aamir Khan played a new role at country’s premier B-School, IIM-A, upon his hush-hush visit here. He donned the roleof a professor and taught around eighty second-year students of the flagship PGDM the tricks of trade in Bollywood for more than two hours. Well, this was not any film shooting, but the superstar was at the campus to deliver lecture as a part of an elective course on ‘Introduction to Contemporary Film Industry’ introduced newly in the course
. However, Aamir’s visit to the IIM-A campus was quite dramatic, as few institute authorities were privy to this visit. Even senior faculty members and students could not know about this until the last moment.

“O really, has Aamir Khan come to the campus?’’ asked a senior faculty when told about his visit. Another faculty member reacted: “O yes, I saw him walking towards his classroom.’’ The institute tried to play down his visit and did not allow for media interaction.

Aamir Khan's Workout Schedule & Diet Plan for hot Ghajini look

The buzz everywhere is about the Aamir Khan’s 6 pack abs and fighter like physique he has built for his forthcoming movie ‘Ghajini’. I read in an article how he worked hard in order look like this. I have mentioned some of the excerpts in this post.

It took Aamir Khan almost a year from March 15, 2007 to April 21, 2008 with three hours of workout every day to build that lean yet muscular physique.Mondays - chest and back, Tuesdays - arms, and Wednesdays - shoulders and legs was his workout schedule. Apart from this he was also doing half-hour to an hour cardio and abs everyday. As for abs I read he used to do 1,000 crunches everyday. Aamir Khan always managed to get eight hours of sleep. No matter what time he went to sleep, he did get eight hours of sleep every day which I think is really important because proper sleep gives enough rest to the muscles and helps in muscle growth and you will not get tired easily while workouts.

Aamir Khan credits his physique to diet as well. He had a balanced diet that included one-third fat, one-third carbs, one-third protein, and normal food like rotis, rice, sabzis, chicken and all cooked in 3 spoons of oil. Apart from this he used to have 16 egg whites, fruits, and four lts. of water every day. There was no sugar, no potatoes, no bananas, no red meat, no egg yolks and no fried stuff.

So building good physique revolves around Exercise, Sleep and Diet. All these 3 are inter-related. If you don’t sleep well you will not have enough strength for exercise and if you eat junk food without having healthy diet you develop fat in your body. So the right combination of all the 3 is important.

Aamir Khan’s diet:

* Daily intake is broken down into six small meals every two hours
* A small carb meal (banana, apple) before exercises that helps build energy. Avoid dairy products but can have buttermilk.
* Food cooked only in 3 tbs of olive oil or saffola
* Plenty of fresh vegetables and fruits
* Rotis made of three-grain wheat (bajra, jowar and atta)
* Snacks include biscuits, brown bread sandwiches, papaya (through the day)
* No carbs after 8 pm, but soups or juices are allowed
* One or two pieces of tandoori chicken for dinner or four egg whites. Can alternate that with vegetable soup, and bhurji with salads or omlette (of egg whites only)

Aamir Khan wants to do Mahabharata and play Lord Krishna

Jiah Khan, Aamir Khan and AsinAfter scoring big on Ghajini, Aamir Khan [Images] is now focusing his attention on his next venture -- and the Indian epic, Mahabharata [Images], seems to have caught his eye.

"Mahabharata is a story that is very close to my heart," Aamir told the media during a party organised in Mumbai [Images] on Monday night to celebrate the success of Ghajini [Images]. "I want to do a film for sure, but not at this moment because you need to do full justice to that. When you are making a film on the Mahabharata, you cannot afford to make mistakes. One has to be very careful and at the moment, I don't have the guts to do Mahabharata."

Aamir had flown down from Bangalore, where he has been shooting for his latest film Three Idiots for Ghajini's success party. Ghajini has become one of the biggest hits of the year, making Rs 200 crore worldwide. Three Idiots is being directed by Rajkumar Hirani, who directed the Munnabhai [Images] series.

So which character in Mahabharata has fascinated him the most? "Karan," the actor answered. "I would love to do that role. Unfortunately, I cannot do it because of my height. I would love to do Arjun's character too. But again, I don't look like a warrior, so I cannot do that role. I am not six feet tall so these roles will not suit me. So the best role for me would be that of Lord Krishna's."

Known to be a perfectionist, Aamir has ventured into territories where his contemporaries haven't dared go. He took up unconventional films like Lagaan [Images] and Taare Zameen Par [Images], which met with success even though they did not follow the tried and tested formula of Hindi films.

When asked where he learnt to take such risks, Aamir replied, "I learnt it from Sunil Dutt, on the sets of Parampara. He had an amazing life and did some great work.

"I go by my instincts (while choosing films)," he continued. "I did Taare Zameen Par because I liked the film. I had no idea that the film would do big business."
