Mumbai, Aug 29: After staying behind the lens and directing some of the industry’s big daddies, Farhan Akhtar, the director par excellence has had a role reversal as he faces the acid test with his acting-singing debut vehicle ‘Rock On’, hitting cinema theatres across the country today.
One of the year’s most anticipated flicks, ‘Rock On’ with it’s western title sans big banner or superstars will serve as the launch pad for not only Farhan who makes his crossover from direction to acting, but also Prachi Desai who shunned thriving TV career to live her Bollywood dreams.
As against the sob stories and real life drama inspired flicks that have been bombing at the BO, ‘Rock On’ with its uber chick look is sure to strike a chord with the youth of the country.
However, if it’s only the big star appeal that can convince you to burn that hole in your pocket, we suggest, take a sneak-peek into what this youth story is all about:
The film revolves around five main characters Aditya Shroff (Farhan Akhtar), Joe Mascarenhas (Arjun Rampal), KD (Purab Kohli), Rob Nancy (Luke Kenny) and Shahana Goswami (Prachi Desai).
Though the characters are distinctively different from one another, it’s their common passion for music that brings them together, forming one of the country’s most successful band.
Aditya Shroff comes from a privileged family and is forced to choose between his dreams and comfortable but spoiled rich life. Aditya sets off to follow his dreams. He meets up with Joe, KD and Rob. The three have their own distinct talents that tell them apart. Joe is a man of few words who lets his guitar do the talking; KD is a killer Drummer and Rob a quite problem solver of the band.
The four come together to form the most popular band in the country only to see it fall apart. Soon, they part ways and settle down in their respective lives. However in an attempt to relive their much cherished dream they reunite again.
Wonder what role does Prachi Deasi play?
Well, she plays Aditya’s wife who stands beside him through thick and thin. The two portray a struggling married couple trying to keep their marriage together.
Check Out the Blogs of Khans and Bachan, I wondered to hear that Amitabh Bachchan is paid Rs.100 crores(Not sure !!!!) to blog on BigAdda! No idea whether he is actually writing or have been ghost written.Any way check these and comment
It’s a truth universally acknowledged that Mumbai is known for its fighting spirit and that’s what the people of the city showed when the serial train blasts on July 11, 2006 threatened to break that spirit.
And that’s what Nishikant Kamat’s Mumbai Meri Jaan seeks to show through the lives of five characters in the aftermath of the blasts. Paresh Rawal, who plays one of the central figures, believes that the crux of the story comes from the belief that pain and loss are there but one can’t succumb to it. “Life goes on,” he says and adds, “It’s a message to the terrorists that people of India are strong and will not get bogged down by such tragedies. The truth is that no country can be run by terrorists. It’s an exercise in futility.”
Agrees Soha Ali Khan, who plays a hard news television reporter, whose fiance dies in one of the blasts. “Terrorism doesn’t discriminate against caste, creed, religion, cities. It can happen anywhere and that’s what is so frightening,” she says. Soha believes this film will make people sit up and think “but it’s not a preachy film. It has great dialogues and is immensely watchable,” she adds. But how would a person from, say Delhi or Bangalore or West Bengal can identify with something that happened in Mumbai? “This film is not just about the city, it’s about people and how they cope with a tragedy. The theme is universal,” clarifies Irrfan Khan who adds, “Plus in today’s times, you can’t seclude yourself and say that terrorism is India’s problem or America’s problem or Iraq’a problem.”
Siddharth Roy Kapur, CEO UTV Motion Pictures could not be more pleased about being associated with this film. “We’re very proud of this film. In fact, I can say it’s at par with some of the best movies that have dealt with the issue of terrorism.”
The new actor Imran Khan, the teenage chocolate hero of the bollywood, has shown his acting skills in his first hit movie Jaane Tu Ya Janne Na. In his next upcoming movie Kidnap he would be playing a negative role.
Imran Khan, who is playing kidnapper in this movie, kidnaps Manissha Lamba, daughter of a multi millionaire played by Sunjay Dutt, in order to extract heavy sum of money.
In an interview, Sanjay Gadhvi, the director of the movie said, "I wanted a boyish actor and when I cast Imran, I didn't think he was the drop-dead good-looking type like Aamir, Salman or Hrithik."
The name of the character played by Imran Khan is Kabir, and it won't be wrong to say that this new chocolate boy of the bollywood has molded well in this character with tanned look and a tattoo.
The young generation of actors like John Abrakam, Hrithik Roshan and Neil Nitin Mukesh keep on reinventing themselves. That is why they look for roles which are different. May be this is the reason why the lead actors of today are not scared to take on negative roles, which at some point used to limit the career of the actors.
Presently, many actors like their roles in the movies to have some shades of grey. Time has changed and we no longer see villains like Pran, Amrish Puri and Prem Chopra, who had their special place in each movie.
The recently successful negative roles played by the stars like Aamir Khan (in 1947 Earth), Akshay Kumar (in Ajnabee), Ajay Devgan (in Khakee) and even Amitabh Bachchan (in Aankhen and Aag) have changed opinion of young stars about negative roles. John Abraham and Hrithik Roshan have played the bad guy role with great success and have managed to make a unique style statement.
However, talking about Imran, who seems to be following his Uncle's foot steps, time will tell the fate of his second movie.
Bollywood actor Aamir Khan dons the dual role of a Punjabi couple bickering on their wedding night in Tata Sky's new TVC, which breaks across major channels on August 25. The film has been conceptualised by Rediffusion DYR with chief creative officer Ramanuj Shastry as the creative director.
Khan's dual role in Tata Sky's TVC
Aamir Khan Productions has produced the film, while it has been directed by Neeraj Vora, who had also co-written the screenplay for the 1995 super hit Aamir Khan starrer, Rangeela. The dialogues in the Tata Sky film have been penned by Rediffusion, Vora and Khan himself.
The TVC brings out the values of trust and integrity associated with the Tata brand and world-class technology from Sky. Thus, the creative has been to communicate the virtues of both Tata and Sky with Khan in a 'Jingalala' tone of voice keeping in mind the seriousness of the message.
The commercial features Khan in a comic attire, enacting the dual role of a bride and a groom on their wedding night. Aamir's costume, dresses him half as a groom and half as a bride. The scene demands Khan to enact a squabble between the bride who aspires to get the best global DTH technology and the groom who prefers integrity and trust over anything else.
Vikram Mehra, chief marketing officer, Tata Sky, said, "Aamir is known to do things that he believes in. Just like Aamir, the brand also strives for perfection. The brand 'emblematises' trust, technological superiority, innovation, expertise, leadership and excellence in performance. The actor personifies all these values and hence, makes a perfect fit with Tata Sky."
"Though Tata Sky has been able to establish itself as a leading DTH provider with a subscriber base of more than 2 million in less than two years, consumers most often are unaware of the superior pedigree of this brand. While Tata is respected and known for its integrity in India, consumers have no clue about Sky's popularity the world over as pioneers in the DTH category." Mehra says.
Mehra also informed that Tata Sky will soon launch a PVR (personal video recorder) service, for which it has called for a creative pitch. Advertising spends of more than Rs 10 crore have been allotted to this service offering. There is no change on the media front, Maxus continues with the account. Ogilvy Action is in charge of the outdoor work. Rediffusion DY&R would continue to handle the mother brand’s creative duties. tags:Aamir Khan dons dual role in Tata Sky's new TVC

Amitabh, Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan along with Madhuri Dixit Nene, spoke about their American experiences before staging their show in New York City over the weekend.
"I'm happy to state that despite all the criticism and the cynicism, we have not changed our style. And I would now like to believe that the very fact that it was criticised has now become the tour's USP which is of course, excellent news to us," said Big B.
"I would also say that we haven't changed our style and that perhaps, the Western audience's taste has changed," he added.
While Big B was glad about moulding the audience into the Bachchan's taste, Abhishek was overwhelmed by the response the tour got.
"If I can speak for everyone, it's really been wonderful because we never expected so many people to know us. We never expected so many people to show up. We really didn't expect this great a response. And it's truly been overwhelming," said Abhishek.
And for Aishwarya the tour was all about bonding.
"I've always referred to the tour as it kind of takes you back to college and summer camp, where we got the opportunity to spend time together, which we don't normally get when we're working on film," she said.
"of course, we do spend time like a family, but then everyday is a morning to night working shift, as making a movie is a tough task," she added.
'The Unforgettable Tour' wrapped its North American tour on August 15 and is now headed to London, Netherlands and Germany.

The rousing reception at the show was incredible, but nothing will be able to top the glory that Abhinav Bindra has brought to the heart of every Indian," Amitabh posted on his blog www.bigb.bigadda.com. Harneet Singh in an exclusive interview with Salman Khan gets first hand reaction of the high profiled actor on issues... ranging from the big fight and his equations with Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif, Akshay Kumar and God!
Since your film, God Tussi Great Ho, is releasing this Friday, it'll be interesting to know in which situation do you say the film's title?
I say that in each and every situation. No matter what happens I always thank God. Agar yeh nahi bologe toh aap nashukr ho (if you don't say this then you're thankless). God has given me so much and I just have to appreciate it.
What kind of a relationship do you share with God?
(He blows a kiss to the sky) That's my rapport with God. I talk to him all the time. I always get my answers from him. Sure, there have been instances when he doesn't listen to me and doesn't give me what I ask for but he does that only when I don't deserve it. I've observed that whenever God hasn't given me what I asked for, it's for the best.

You do a lot of comedy films, what is it that clicks with the audience about your comic style?
I think it's the sincerity and the person's personality that the audience relates to. Which is your all time favourite comic film?
Andaaz Apna Apna. I've only seen the whole thing once but whenever I happen to catch it on television I end up being glued to it.
Is it true that there is going to be a sequel to Andaaz Apna Apna?
That's what I hear. Aamir (Khan) wants to do it. It all depends on our director Rajkumar Santoshi. I'm game for it.
You come across as a very warm and affable host on 10 Ka Dum, how do you make sure to be always in a good mood?
It's very simple. If you come to my house and you are being nice to me so why wouldn't I be nice to you? I don't fake anything. If I'm not in a good mood then that too shows on screen. But bad mood doesn't mean that I've to behave badly. I try and be a good host.
But you're not comfortable with women hugging you?
(Shrugs) They come in, they are very sweet to me and I don't mind it if they hug me. That's their way of showing affection and I respect that.
But are you a hugging person?
Nope. I'm not an exhibitionist, not a demonstrative person. No hugs for me.
But you do know how to throw the most talked about party?
It was Katrina Kaif's party. Maybe it'll be talked about for decades to come but definitely not by me. I'm not going to speak about it.
But was there a fight with Shah Rukh Khan?
Yeah.
What led to the fight?
Have you ever known me to speak about anybody? Whatever happened is between me and Shah Rukh. It's personal.
Is Shah Rukh your friend?
Not anymore. I'm not going to deny that there are issues between us. I'm a primitive man born in today's time. I can't fake anything. If there is a problem then I'm not going to deny it. We've had problems before also but this time I don't think we can sort them out. We are two different people. Our values and way of thinking are different. I don't think we can be friends. I think it's better to declare that then put on a fake façade of being friends and back-biting each other.
But there is a lot of shared history between you and SRK, didn't he stay at your house in his struggling days?
(Smiles) Yeah but I've only been to his house twice in my life. The first time I went on my own and the second time was when he came and took me to his house for a chat.
The buzz is that professional rivalry between you two especially with regards, your respective shows, Kya Aap Paanchvi Paas Se Tez Hain and 10 Ka Dum, led to the fight?
No, I don't think it's because my show is doing better. I don't think he's that insecure. The reason of the fight is personal.
Is it because he refused to act in your home production, Main Aur Mrs Khanna?
Let me make it clear once and for all that Main Aur Mrs Khanna was never offered to SRK. I was always doing the film. It's just that when Shah Rukh used to come to my home to ask me to appear on Kaun Banega Crorepati and Om Shanti Om, I just mentioned it to him that it'll be nice if he has the time to listen to the story. That's all.
It seems you and Aamir Khan are the latest best friends. You're gifting him paintings etc?
Aamir and I have always got along. I made his portrait and gifted to him. What's the big deal?
There are rumours that you and Akshay Kumar share cold vibes too. True?
No, no, not at all. Akshay is a colleague. He's a nice guy. He is very hardworking and keeps to himself. Akshay will work hard to bring himself up and not to bring someone else down. Every second day there are stories of you and Katrina Kaif either breaking up or making up. What's the status?
First of all, I want to know who are all these friends, sources close to me and my family who speak on our behalf? My friends will never speak like that about me or anyone close to me because they will give their life for me. Obviously it's someone who is insecure, jealous and friendly to the press. Maybe they are someone else's friends.
The Bengali beauty, Bipasha Basu seems to be quite a man's lady. Even been with John Abraham, she had the famous controversial kiss with the football star, Cristiano Ronaldo. Now the Bengal beauty seems to be interested in Deepika Padukone's boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor.
Earlier the dusky babe had admitted that she was really fond of Ranbir. What had put fire over it was that Bipasha insisted to the organizers that it should be her and not Deepika who will enter the stage with Ranbir first at a recent show.
Deepika didn't like this and she made it sure that it will be her and not Bipasha to enter first. Things went from bad to worse when Bipasha made a grand entry with Ranbir leaving Deepika into fumes.
Next we saw was a sultry and over angry Deepika not at all acknowledging or interacting with Ranbir. She was looking boiling hot.
We hope Ranbir calms down Deepika soon before things go hay-wire.

Mumbai (PTI): Amid speculations whether Akshay Kumar is the new 'King of Bollywood', 'Singh is Kinng' starring the actor in the title role opened to an excellent box office initial worldwide on Friday.
The film's producer Vipul Shah told PTI that box office collections on the opening day was a "historical 100 per cent" everywhere. "it is the biggest ever opening for any film so far," he claimed.
'Singh is Kinng' has been released in 1800 screens worldwide, he added.
When asked about the weekend and second week prospects for the film, Shah replied, "they look record breaking."
When contacted, Sandeep Bhargava of Indian Films which has distributed the film worldwide said that according to distributors in India and overseas, 'Singh is Kinng' has got a phenomenal initial opening.
"They say the opening is bigger than 'Om Shanti Om'.
However, it is too early to provide the comparative figures as the film has been released only today," he added.
The much hyped and well published movie which is co-produced by Akshay Kumar himself was in the news all throughout its making. The actor's recent movies have raked over Rs 500 crore and trade circles commented that the film's title suggested Kumar's attempt to replace Shah Rukh Khan as the 'King of Bollywood'.
However, critics and trade analysts are divided on their opinion about the film's fate at the box office. Some critics are keeping their fingers crossed and feel that the euphoria will not last in the second week.
