Mere Baap Pehle Aap : Akshaye and Priyadarshan together

Akshaye Khanna is on cloud nine and rightly so! His work in Race has come in for tremendous appreciation and, most importantly, its success at the box-office has only added to the excitement.

Shooting for Shortkut in Bangkok, the actor says that no one expected Race to work in such a big way. “Of course, all of us were confident that it would work big time, but the numbers have caught everyone unawares,” he says.

Akshaye, who has worked with some of the biggest names in the business, is now looking forward to working with Akshay Kumar some day. “Imagine the two of us in one movie,” he states, “And only two people can achieve the impossible—Abbas-Mustan and Priyadarshan. In fact, they've been toying with the idea of casting us in a movie, but haven't found the right script yet.”

Akshaye is looking forward to his next release Mere Baap Pehle Aap, which brings Akshaye and Priyadarshan together after a gap of few years. “It's a fabulous film. In fact, I'd like to say that it's Priyan's best film so far,” he says. Coming from someone whose name is synonymous with qualitative cinema, it only increases the expectations from this film.

Sonam Kapoor with Shahrukh khan: Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi

It’s final now. Sonam Kapoor will star opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Aditya’s Chopra’s Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. There has been a lot of speculation about casting for this role. Adi was also very finicky about signing the right girl because he was making his comeback to direction after a gap of eight years and wanted to get everything just so.”

Shutter - film trailer and review

Shutter is a film that comes from the executive producers of The Grudge and The Ring. In Shutter, a newly-married couple discovers disturbing, ghostly images in photographs that they develop after a tragic accident. They investigate the scene further and stumble upon the fact that past mistakes can lead to an eternity of vengeance.

Ben (Joshua Jackson), a photographer and his wife Jane (Rachael Taylor) arrive in Tokyo for Ben’s assignment on a fashion shoot. The couple takes their trip to the Japanese capital as a working honeymoon.

As they make their way towards Mt. Fuji, their car smashes into a woman standing in the middle of the road. The woman appears from nowhere and vanishes into thin air after the crash. Shocked with the incident Ben and Jane try to move on with the assignment.

Ben is no stranger to Japan and is fluent with its language, which makes him comfortable in the alien environment. Jane on the other hand feels alienated and finds it hard to get used to the new city.

Ben discovers mysterious white blurs in his photographs from the fashion show. Jane believes the blurs in Ben’s photos are from the dead girl from the road, who seeks vengeance from them for leaving her to die.

A girl suddenly appears, gets hit by a car and disappears, only to return to haunt the perpetrators. We remade the film keeping in mind the wider international sensibilities.

"Shutter is based around the subject of paranormal and spirit photography and I must say Japanese audiences are very familiar with it. Everyone in Japan at one point or another has had a sleepless night after being exposed to spirit photography.

"Spirit photography is so popular in Japan because ghosts mean more to the Japanese people than to Americans. In Japan, ghosts don’t have to do anything to be scary. In American ghost stories, they have to wreak all kinds of havoc to make an impact.”

Bollywood Diwali Releases

Although we're several months away from Diwali, several dream merchants have already set their eyes on the festive week. In fact, a number of films have already been confirmed for release in the festive week this year. Sometime back, we had told you that Subhash Ghai's YUVRAAJ, Ashtavinayak - Rohit Shetty's GOLMAAL RETURNS and Yash Raj's ROADSIDE ROMEO [an animation film produced in association with Walt Disney] have already locked the date [October 24]. There's talk that Karan Johar is also bringing DOSTANA [Abhishek, Priyanka, John] on this date.

Now here's a piping hot development pertaining to the Diwali week. Nikhil Advani's CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA, which marks the foray of Hollywood giant Warner Bros. in Hindi films, is also confirmed for Diwali. Not on October 24, but on October 29. Not on a Friday, but on a Wednesday.

Reason being, people would be busy with the festivities and visiting each other all through the festive week. The occupancy at movieplexes, therefore, might take a hit during certain days. The business would only escalate once the festivities and festival-related ceremonies get over. Hence, it's October 29 for CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA.

Aamir Khan designated as torch bearer for the Beijing Olympics

March 25, 2008 (Sawf News) - Coca Cola, presenting partner for the Beijing Olympics, designated Aamir Khan as an Environment Champion and one of six torch bearers for the Olympic torch relay in New Delhi on April 17.

The other five torch bearers are - former director general (Bureau of police research and development) Dr Kiran Bedi, president BAIF development research foundation Narayan Hegde, secretary general and CEO, World Wildlife Fund Ravi Singh, president and CEO Coca Cola India Atul Singh and environmentalist Y Subhash Chandra Reddy.

All six were present at a press meet at Grand Hyatt, Kalina, Mumbai on Monday late noon, March 24, and pledged to protect the environment and support the cause of water conservation.

Aamir looked chic in sporty casuals, wearing white classic two-button polo with Coca Cola logo and blue jeans. He sported a crew cut and stubble, a look mandated by his role in the under production film Ghajini.

London Dreams :Salman Khan's Upcoming Film with Ajay Devgan

Two years after it was first announced, the Salman Khan -starrer London Dreams is finally taking shape.

Initially, it was Rajkumar Santoshi who was supposed to direct this film. But as is normally the case with Santoshi, his attention kept getting diverted towards other projects like Halla Bol and ‘London Dreams’ always remained on the backburner.

Now, the project is being revived under a new director. Vipul Amrutlal Shah of Namastey London has taken over the film and will begin shooting in the middle of this year.

Salman Khan still retains his place in the project. Ajay Devgan will play a parallel role. The two actors have previously worked together in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam .

Contrary to expectations, Vipul Shah’s favourite Akshay Kumar won’t be a part of ‘London Dreams’.

For the role of the film’s leading ladies, many names like Katrina Kaif and Kareeena Kapoor were touted in media. But Shah has clarified that the film will have a newcomer.

Shah says the role of the film’s leading lady is such that it requires a fresh face, someone whom the audiences have not seen on the big screen before. That lucky girl has not been finalized yet. The hunt, however, is on.

‘London Dreams’ will go on the floors from June this year.

There are times when we learn certain things from the kids that we never forget throughout our lives. Something similar happened with our sexy lass Mallika Sherawat. If you recall, Mallika was also a member of the cast of AAP KA SURROOR, the first film of Himesh Reshmiaya and Hansika Motwani. Those were the days when Mallika was quite annoyed with 15-year-old Hansika who not only addressed the sex siren as 'Aunty, but also teased her making all sorts of faces.

Now it wouldn't be wrong to say that influenced by Hansika, Mallika has applied all the tricks on her co-stars in the forthcoming film MAN GAYE MUGHAL-E-AZAM and troubled K. K. Menon and Rahul Bose a lot. Especially, Mallika used to make faces and tease K. K. Menon when he would be busy with the shooting.

When we contacted the director of the film Sanjay Chhel, he said, 'Yes, it is true that Mallika was up to such pranks on the sets. Whenever she used to come on the sets, Mallika used to bow and do salaam to all present much like Anarkali. It was not only Mallika, but also Paresh Rawal. Together they used to tease and annoy everyone present on the set.'

Elaborating, Sanjay Chhel said, "All these things did not bother Rahul as he was Mallika's co-star in PYAR KE SIDE EFFECTS and was aware of her ways. But K. K. Menon was quite upset by such behavior of Mallika and feeling uneasy, the actor would blow red."

We are happy that notwithstanding all tantrums by Mallika, K. K. Menon was cool and did not react. Had he reacted, not only the atmosphere on the set would have been affected, but even Sanjay Chhel's face would have turned red like K. K. Menon's!

Aamir's new look in Ghajini

After weeks of speculation about will he, won’t he, and when, Aamir has got the tonsured look everyone’s been talking about – the one that he’ll sport in Ghajini.

Aamir overcame his initial nervous moments as hairstylist Avan Contractor set to work on him at his Pali Hill residence in the presence of his wife Kiran Rao and lyricist Prasoon Joshi.

A source revealed, “Kiran and Prasoon constantly joked about Aamir going taklu. That made Aamir all the more nervous. So, he requested Avan to go real slow and chop his hair off inch by inch and finally create a scar.”

The source added, “Kiran later remarked that he looked quite dashing.” Aamir said, “Ghajini is an action thriller and this look is an important dimension to the character I’m playing. I’m very happy with the way it has turned out.” So happy was Aamir with his look that he threw an impromptu party in the evening.

Love Story 2050 : starring Harman Baweja and Priyanka Chopra

March 20, 2008 (Sawf News) - Priyanka Chopra attended a press event to release the promos of her forthcoming film Love Story 2050 at PVR Juhu in Mumbai, Wednesday evening, March 19. Missing from the event was her boyfriend and debutant co-star Harman Baweja and we have the secret why…

An insider from the film unit tells us that film director Harry Baweja, who is also the father of Harman, wants to minimize his son's public exposure before the release of the film, just as Saawariya director Sanjay Leela Bhansali did with Sonam and Ranbir. The idea is to create as much of a buzz around Harman as for the VFX heavy Sci Fi film.

Priyanka wore a sleeveless sheath dress in silver metallic flower print. The dress had a banded empire waist, a revealing V neckline in the front and a deep V neck at the back, ending with an oversized bow detail.

She matched the dress with black peep-toe d'Orsay pumps with slender heels and carried a box clutch.

Her razor cut shoulder length dark brown hair, left open, framed her face well. She had styled them for volume and height with the tresses falling straight down on the shoulders.

Priyanka probably wanted to appear as if she had just stepped out of a galaxy straddling spaceship but that wasn't the impression we got.

It is always a delight to watch Priyanka at her public appearances, because she picks her dresses and accessories well. We like her restrained sense of style that blends glamour and class.

Harry Baweja directed Love Story 2050 is due for release on June 13.

Quantum of Solace, the next James Bond film

Quantum of Solace is Daniel Craig's second outing as Bond

A new official Quantum of Solace newswrap video has made it’s way online at Reelz Channel featuring the cast and crew as well as location highlights for Daniel Craig’s second James Bond film.

Starting things off, director Marc Forster commented on the importance he places on the exotic locales in the world of 007: ‘The locations, I think, are characters themselves. When you choose a location, the location as much as an actor, speaks for itself.’

The video also highlights the Bond production shooting in then desert at Baja Caifornia, Mexico. Several shots of planes taking off and helicopters are included.

‘We’re down here filming the aerial sequence,’ said producer Michael G. Wilson. ‘We’ve had them throughout the career of the Bond films, but this one we wanted to kind of have a retro dogfight. These are propeller-driven planes, not jet planes. It’s the type of plane that drugrunners would have so it fits the location.’

‘For every one camera position up here in the mountains it takes three helicopter trips in and three helicopter trips out,’ said second-unit director Dan Bradley. ‘So it’s a pretty arduous task.’

‘We have aerial cameras. We’ve got two cameras on an Aerostar and spacecams on helicopters. Then we have some very long lens that go on the ground.’

DC3 pilot Skip Evans said of the requirements for this type of filming: ‘To work this airplane in the bottom of the canyons you’ve got to be physically strong just to maneuver the airplane.’

The video then transitions of the Bond production in Panama, highlighting some of the filming in the streets of Panama City, including a brief exchange between Bond and Agent Fields (Gemma Arterton).

Quantum of Solace

‘We’re in Panama City right now and Panama really has a diversity of cities and looks which is really useful for us,’ said Forster.

As earlier mentioned today in the BBC One video, Arterton commented on filming at the location: ‘It was great working on the streets of Panama because you get a sense of what the real Panama City’s like. They’ve got so much life and character to them. It’s a brilliant location.’

‘There’s also the party that will be shot here. It’s sort of a ruin I found that I really fell in love with,’ said Forster. The video shows a before-and-after comparison shot between the initial scouting of the location in October 2007 and it’s current redesign for the Quantum of Solace party sequence.

Arterton also spoke about the party location, calling it a ‘brilliant place.’

Billoo Barber : Shah Rukh Khan's upcoming movie with Priyadarshan

Shah Rukh Khan will soon start shooting for Priyadarshan's film, Billoo Barber. A Red Chillies Entertainment venture, the film also stars Irrfan Khan in the title role. Billo Barber is an adaptation of the story of friendship between Krishna and Sudama.

According to sources, Priyadarshan is adapting this story of Krishna and Sudama, one rich and the other a poor villager, in a completely new avatar. In the film, SRK represents Krishna, and is an actor. On the other hand, Irrfan represents Sudama, and plays a village barber. The two are childhood friends from school who drift apart until they meet again. SRK will be seen romancing three different ladies, Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor and Deepika Padukone. He has already began shooting with Kareena but is in talks with Deepika and Priyanka. For the second female lead opposite Irrfan, Priyadrashan is looking for a powerhouse performer. According to sources, Tabu and Amisha Patel are being considered for the role. It seems that SRK will have the final say on the cast. Billoo Barber will be Priyadarshan's 75th film. The film's screenplay is written by Mushtaq Sheikh and Manisha Korde.

Mumbai: India Post paid tribute to legendary actress Madhubala, the most beautiful and attractive woman in the history of Bollywood, by releasing a postage stamp in her memory. Often referred to as the 'Venus of the Indian screen', Madhubala had an angelic beauty coupled with oomph, which set her apart from her contemporaries. Unveiling the stamp, veteran actor Manoj Kumar said that Madhubala was "the face of the century". Madhubala is only the second Indian actress after Nargis to have a postage stamp released in her honour. Mumtaz Begum Jahan Dehlavi, famously known as Madhubala, was born in Delhi on February 14, 1933. She was a Muslim and an ethnic Pathan, the fifth child of a conservative afghan family of eleven children.

In search of a better life for his impoverished family, her father, Ataullah Khan relocated to Bombay with his family. There they struggled for over a year and often frequented the Bombay film studios in search of work. Young Mumtaz made her debut in 1942 in the film "Basant" as an eight-year-old child artiste. So impressed was the film's producer, Devika Rani, with her performance that she was rechristened Madhubala.

Katrina Kaif Charges 1.5 crore for an item number in film Blue

Katrina Kaif is the highest paid item girl in the industry. The actress is being paid a staggering 1.5 crore to shake her booty in Shree Ashtavinayak’s next film Blue. The film stars Sanjay Dutt, Akshay Kumar and Lara Dutta in lead roles.

An industry insider reveals, “Katrina Kaif has become a sort of a lucky mascot, after all her films have done well. The actress is now getting any price she is demanding. Shree Ashtavinayak’s Blue has a 100-crore budget. When the production house asked her to do an item number, Kat initially refused, as she doesn’t want the label of an item girl. But when the makers agreed to pay her a 1.5 crore fee and offered a few more scenes, the actress accepted.” Last week, the actress signed on the dotted line.

Not an item?

Katrina confirms the development, “I am doing something very special in Blue. I wouldn’t call it an item number. I have given ten days for the film, May onwards. They require seven days for the song. The other bit will take three days.”

When asked if the price quoted in the industry circles was correct (Rs 1.5 crore), the actress agrees, “The figure you’ve quoted is pretty accurate.”

Parag Desai, the media consultant for Shree Ashtavinayak says, “We have indeed signed Katrina for Blue. We would not like to disclose the figures involved. Also, she has a proper role in the film.”

Katrina refuses C Company item

Says an industry insider, “After Blue, the actress was recently approached to do another item number for Balaji Telefilms’ next, C Company. But the actress turned it down. Money, of course, was the bone of contention. Balaji was not willing to shell out that kind of money. The deal is now off.”

Katrina agrees that she was indeed approached, “I don’t like to talk about things that I am not doing professionally. I was approached by the banner to do a song. It didn’t work out and that was that.”

Shilpa Shetty to release her Yoga DVD in India

After having launched her Yoga DVD, ‘Shilpa’s Yoga’ in the European markets, now Shilpa Shetty is looking homewards.

The DVD will be dubbed in Hindi and will be launched in India in a few weeks from now. Shemaroo has stuck an exclusive deal with the actress for the launch. Right now, the market is ruled by Baba Ramdev’s yoga DVDs.

The DVD showcases the right techniques of doing ashtanga yoga including breathing techniques. Dale Bhagwagar, Shilpa’s spokesperson says, “Apart from practicing yoga daily for four years, Shilpa took special added intensive training from yoga trainers Shiv Kumar Mishra and Vinayak Dixit for some time, making sure she perfected the asans before demonstrating them to the world. Everyone wants to maintain a slim waist without dieting and Shilpa’s yoga secrets will help achieve that,” he says.

Shot at the backwaters in Kerala, the DVD is produced by Shilpa’s newly launched production house ‘S2 Global Productions’ and directed by Manish Jha (of the critically-acclaimed feature films Matrabhoomi and Anwar fame).

While Arghya Lahiri has written the script, the camerawork is handled by Englishman Jamie Sowlds.

The package also contains a free lounge music CD with compositions by Pankaj Awasthi.

Jackie Chan to launch DASAVATHARAM audio

The most awaited movie of the year 2008, DASAVATHARAM's audio is to be released by non other than Jackie Chan on April 2. Audiences are keen to see their favorite actor Kamal Haasan in 10 avatars (incarnations). He already thrilled audiences with his unique looks in movies like HINDUSTANI, CHACHI 420 earlier. I am No. 2: Shah Rukh Khan

Aamir had recently commented that he himself was the numero uno of Bollywood and SRK came second to him.

To this, King Khan's reply was: "Aamir is a dear friend and if he has said that I am the No. 2 actor, it is a great compliment to me".

"We have great regard for each other. He is 100 per cent number one," SRK said addressing a press conference for the Indian Premier League in Mumbai Thursday.

Elaborating further, SRK spoke about how different he is from Aamir. But he did not miss to add his own touch of witty humour to it.

"Gauri will beat me up if I say anything about Aamir as she is an Aamir Khan fan. But we are very dear friends and we have our share of fun," told SRK and added, "Aamir is more intellectual and intelligent, but I'm more instinctive. I may be famous for K-K-K-Kiran, but he really loves Kiran."

Shahrukh khan,s new game show :Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hai?

The cold war between Shahrukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan is all set to be reignited when the stars will taken on each other on television. Big B has been approached by Zee Television to host a game show which would take on Star Plus' Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain to be hosted by Shahrukh Khan.

Punit Goenka son of Zee head Subhash Chandra Agarwal has been regularly meeting Amitabh regarding the show. Bachchan is considering the offer but is not too keen on fighting against Shahrukh in the same slot. He has made it clear that he will not take up the show if it is pitched in the same slot as Shahrukh's Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain.


Bachchan and Shahrukh have been at war on the small screen ever since Shahrukh took over Kaun Banega Crorepati 3 from Big B. The show which was initially meant to be hosted by Bachchan but went to King Khan owing to Bachchan's poor health.

Aishwarya Rai to pair with Vikram in Mani Ratnam’s next movie

Aishwarya Rai is all set to be the heroine of the next project of ace Southern director Mani Ratnam of Dil Se, Bombay, and Guru fame. For this, she is being paired with Tamil super star Vikram.

Though the project will see Aiswarya re-uniting with hubby Abhishekh Bachchan after GURU in a Mani Ratnam flick, Abhishekh will not play her love interest. Abhishekh is two movies old with Ratnam – of Yuva, and guru. Aiswariya is also two films old with him- Iruvar and Guru.

Vikram is new to Hindi audiences except for last year’s dubbed version of Tamil hit Anniyan by the name of Aparichit. Vikram has several Tamil hits to his credit – Dhill, Gemini, Pithamagan, Dhool, Saamy and Anniyan

Vikram’s another Tamil hit ‘Sethu’ was remade in Hindi as the Salman Khan starrer Tere Naam . However, Vikram hasn’t acted in a Hindi film yet.

According to sources, Vikram has already agreed to dates for the movie. It begins shooting in September this year. He expressed his happiness to work with both Mani Ratnam and Aishwarya Rai. He considered this as an ideal launch into Bollywood.

The movie is being described as an intense love story set in contemporary times. But given the fact that Mani Ratnam is directing, the movie is expected to have some socio-political undercurrents as his past Hindi movies have had.

Ash and Abhi are also starring together in one other movie coming up- namely Sarkar Raj by Ram Gopal Verma. Industry is waiting to see how the couple can ignite the screen with some of their real life chemistry.

Priyanka Chopra clean bowled Sreesanth!

A cricket match always begins with a toss. And Priyanka Chopra's love life with Harmaan Baweja seems to have gone just that way – for a toss. We are hearing lesser and lesser of this 'match', and more and more of Priyanka's 'partnership' with cricketers!

The 'series' of relationships...it all began during the India's first T20 series against Australia, being played on Indian soil. Team India was in Mumbai then, while Priyanka was shooting for Drona in Namibia. The actress was to fly out to Malaysia, but surprisingly came down to Mumbai for a day. And instead of going home, headed straight to the Taj hotel were the Boys in Blue were put up.

It was when Priyanka was spotted at the hotel that rumours of her and MS Dhoni first surfaced. India's skipper was acknowledged for his batting and first stint of captaincy, and the actress was so impressed that she was left 'batting' her eyelids.

Now rumours about a 'partnership' between Sreesanth and Priyanka are doing the rounds. Apparently, it's the lovely Chopra girl that has bowled the cricketer over this time round. How did the news get out? The media (including us), got hold of a copy of a recorded telephonic conversation between a cricketer (alleged to be Sreesanth) and Priyanka Chopra. In the convo, the cricketer has expressed to Priyanka how he constantly thinks about her, and how thoughts of her have driven him quite crazy. Sounds like the cricketer is absolutely 'stumped' and completely 'bowled over' by the maiden.

We don't know how strong this wicket is, and the 'pitch' from Priyanka's viewpoint may not yet be ready. In the meantime, Sreesanth has called for a press conference this evening, and we're sure he's going to appeal, claiming the allegiance and evidence to be a 'wrong decision' of sorts, and in fact a 'no ball' that cannot be counted.

Salman Khan takes off shirt at Chote Ustaad

Once again, Bollywood superstar Salman Khan removed his shirt in joy, but this time on the sets of Star Plus’ music talent show Amul Star Voice of India ‘Chhote Ustad.’

In the episode to be telecast on Saturday, Sallu get onto the stage with a dance on his hit song ‘Hai Rama Rama Ho’ from his film, Lucky. He danced with three Chhote Ustad’s contestants, Aishwarya, Anvesha and Prakriti.

On the request of his kid fans and viewers, Bollywood’s stylish man takes off his shirt in the true ‘Salman-i-shtyle’.

The show organizers said that after removing his shirt, he flexed his muscle before the viewers.
