Amitabh Bachchan

The tension between Jaya Bachchan and Raj Thackeray’s MNS has affected Amitabh’s Friday release, The Last Lear. The party workers in protest against Jaya’s controversial statement burnt her effigies, tore posters and boycott the screening of the film. The theatre in which the film was to be screened has been damaged. The premiere of the film is scheduled to happen tonight at a suburban multiplex. Though Jaya, on Amitabh’s plea and Raj Thackeray’s demand offered her apology in an English daily, Raj did not accept her excuse. He demanded Jaya to say sorry before media, to a regional publication.

Jaya’s anti-Maharastrian statement during the music launch of Drona created furor all over the city. Though she claimed that her remarks were not meant to hurt the sentiments of the people of Maharastra, the protesters were not ready to believe her. They shouted slogans, tore posters, brought out rally in protest and boycotted the screening of Friday release, The Last Lear. According to director Rituparno Ghosh, the film will be released on the scheduled date of September 12.

Apart from Amitabh Bachchan, the film also stars Arjum Rampal and Preity Zinta in pivotal roles. Big B has well promoted the film and it received a lot of accolades in several international film festivals. This will be Preity’s first off-beat film.
